Sometimes children experience adjustment problems when they have a major life stressor. These stressors can be things like:
- Changing schools
- Death in the family
- Family member deploying
- Moving with their family
- Parental divorce
Children with adjustment problems sometimes experience anxiety, depression, and/or behavioral problems. We typically recommend supportive therapy combined with therapy designed to help your child with specific tools to cope with the feelings that they are having. If your child is having behavioral problems, we may also recommend parent training in behavioral interventions for you. Family therapy can also be helpful when an entire family is coping with some life changes.
